Save those receipts! At long last the IRS has recognized the money that teachers pay out of their pockets every year to buy classroom supplies. A new ruling will allow you to deduct up to $250 in your expenses by subtracting it directly from your adjusted gross income. (The old law allowed educators to declare such expenses only as miscellaneous itemized deductions.) To qualify for the new deduction, you must work at least 900 hours as a teacher, instructor, counselor, principal or aide. And you must keep a record of your expenses.
