April 18-20, 2008

'Leaders Taking Charge'

Spring Leadership Conference ‘Leaders Taking Charge,’ will show how you can make a difference in your local association. The opening session of our leadership conference is scheduled from
4 – 6:00 PM on Friday, followed immediately with a group dinner and presentation from 6:30 – 8:30 PM.

 

All participants are expected to attend
group dinner/lunch and presentations.
 

 

The conference will conclude by 11:30 AM on Sunday, April 20.  Please make your travel plans accordingly.

 

UAA credit course will be offered in conjunction with NEA-Alaska’s Leadership Conference. Tuition is $90.  For more information visit

CONFERENCE TRAVEL           MAKE RESERVATIONS BY APRIL 5


Please check w/your local president prior to making
 travel arrangements.

 

NEA-Alaska will reimburse roundtrip airfare (bargain/value) to Anchorage for three (3) members of your local who serve as the core leadership in your local or if you express a desire to get involved and make a difference in your local.  Your local's participants must attend the entire conference in order to receive travel reimbursement.  Please make your travel arrangements accordingly.  If driving, mileage is reimbursed up to the bargain/value price of the airfare.

Hotel and meals are the responsibility of the attendee and/or the local.  Your local may send additional participants to the conference, however all expenses will be the responsibility of the local and/or participant. 

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

 

It is critical that the individuals attending this conference be members who want to make a difference in the activities of your local during 2008-09, i.e. local officers, executive board, chairs of your standing committees and those individuals who express a desire to get involved and make a difference in your local should all be considered as possible participants to this conference.

 

  Deadline for conference registration is Friday, April 11.

The conference will be held at the Hilton Anchorage Hotel.  A special rate of $95 single/double + tax has been negotiated for this conference.  Please provide our group code ‘NEF’ to obtain our special rate when making your reservations.   We cannot guarantee this conference rate after April 7.

CONFERENCE OUTLINE    REGISTRATION DEADLINE:  APRIL 11

 

Friday, April 18:   Our conference will begin promptly at 4:00 PM.  Attendees will participate in 3 of the 6 sessions offered.   These sessions are designed to provide each participant a foundation in leader development ranging from various levels of leadership to developing a vision or how to deal with conflict.

 

The evening will continue with a group dinner and presentation from 6:30-8:30 PM.  All participants are expected to attend.

 

 Saturday, April 19:  A continental breakfast will be available from 7 – 8:30 AM. This breakfast is intended to provide our members with the opportunity to have informal conversations about local organizational issues. 

 

From 8:30 AM until noon, each participant will attend 1 of the 4 work sessions offered, and then at 1:30 PM attend a different work session in the afternoon.   

 

Please note that the President’s Training work session is all day.

 

A group lunch and presentation is scheduled from noon-1:30 PM and all participants are expected to attend.  

                  

Sunday, April 20:  A breakfast buffet will be available from 7 – 8:30 AM.  

 

Beginning at 8:30 AM ALL participants will come together as a group for Sunday’s session to review our statewide goals and GOTV strategies/planning for all legislative districts (urban and rural/small locals).

 

This work session will conclude by 11:30 AM.

Our goal for this year’s conference is to have every participant leave with a stronger understanding of leadership, the impact of working together as a team, and how to organize and plan around key issues significant to your local and the organization as a whole.
