Excellence in Education —
Teaching in Alaska
|
 |
Alaska's students deserve the best teachers, and that may mean you. But the experience of NEA-Alaska members is that teaching in rural or "Bush" districts in our state is truly unique. Association members have developed the NEA-Alaska Orientation Handbook for Rural Educators, an indispensable guide for anyone considering a teaching position in rural Alaska. Click here to view the table of contents of the handbook. Email NEA-Alaska to receive a copy of the handbook by mail. You'll also want to check out certification requirements and other information from the Alaska Department of Education, 907/465-2800.
NEA-Alaska does not have a list of jobs available in Alaska; however,
the Alaska Teacher Placement office at the University of Alaska Fairbanks acts as an employment office for most rural districts throughout the state. They charge an annual fee to be listed with them. When they receive a job posting from a school district, they send everyone listed with them a copy of the job announcement and instructions on how to apply. If you are interested in obtaining information on how to list with them, their address is http://zorba.uafadm.alaska.edu:80/atp/. If you are interested in the larger (urban) school districts, you would have to contact the individual district directly for job availability. For other opportunities, go to
